Agreed. However, there is nothing unfaithful or disobedient about having a
chat with one's pastor to say that you would appreciate more lead time in
the future, and that unless there's an emergency, it would be best to not
call at work (if your work situation is as such). We are not blind robots
who are to jump blindly whenever someone in authority says "High." We are to
be in RELATIONSHIP with one another and have good communication. My pastor
would most assuredly want me to speak up about my limitations and what I can
and cannot handle...and when or where he may or may not call me. That's part
of working together.

I'm not saying that any of this applies to Steve's situation...he seemed
perfectly happy to get the songs and do them...and depending on the
situation, I might have been just as happy to oblige. Been there, done that.
But there also needs to be room for discussion with one's pastor about what
is reasonable. I learned my lesson last year at the holidays -- I said yes
to absolutely everything that came my way in the church and it just about
killed me. Left me little time to prepare for Christmas with my family. I am
not going to do that again and I already have a meeting set up with my
pastor to discuss this. To my mind, this *is* being faithful...to share who
I am, warts and all, with him so that he knows my strengths and
weaknesses...and what my limitations are.

It is not a sign of lack of submission, or a sign of not taking one's
calling seriously, or a sign of not knowing that we have an awesome
privilege to be worship leaders. It IS a sign of having some sense of
boundaries and having a good and trusting working relationship and
friendship with your pastor.

Just my 2 cents...
Nina
