Hi Cindy! As in my other post, I generally get another vocalist to double my
hand signals (if the problem is line-of-sight), and those who are able to
pass on signals try to do so (most often the keyboardist who sits in full
view of the rest of the band). I *do* ask musicians to remain sharp and
aware of each other and to look up as much as possible.

The most effective thing I find is to simply back up the signal with a vocal
instruction or cue, be it singing the first few words of the lyric, singing
a lick that suggests it, or simply speaking the next few words of the lyric,
or even "c'mon, verse two!".
