Give the guy a break! Maybe he comes from a small church that doesn't
have a team potential video techs. We have about 6 qualified people at our
church and it is still sometimes hard to find someone available.
Regards,
Lee.
PS I am a sound/video tech.

Amen! As a sound tech, not a worship leader, may I ask that you trust your
sound and video techs to serve you, so that you can serve the congregation
and our Lord!
Response:
Having served often in both roles, I can tell you honestly that it's
WONDERFUL
when you HAVE a sound tech. It's also wonderful when you HAVE a video tech
or
even a designated overhead flipper!
Alas, some of us are not so lucky, or at least, not all the time. On
Wednesday
nights, after begging and pleading for someone to watch the sound desk, my
wife
and I are indeed fortunate to have a sound person once a month for 15
minutes
out of a 90 minute service! And the overhead flipper is often the first set
of
willing hands available for conscription!! We would LOVE to have trustable
techs, but it's just not always possible.
Timo and others are looking for ways to be self-sufficient for good reasons.
In the recent past, I travelled in ministry more than I do now. When I went
alone (without my beloved wife and keyboard player), I learned quickly that
I
pretty much had to be a self-contained package. I asked in advance to find
out
if there was an overhead already in place and if not, made arrangements to
have
lyrics printed out and/or chose easy, well-known songs. In my current
employment situation, we have similar circumstances, albeit not within a
sacred
context. Presentations have to be made and it is absolutely imcumbant upon
us
to carry virtually everything that we need in order to make those
presentations. Laptop loaded with appropriate software and files, projector,
extension cords, connecting cords, etc. If we were doing a presentation that
included sound, we'd have speakers large enough for a goodly sized room that
would also be part of the travelling show.
Some call it paranoia, some call it circumspection. We call it being a good
Boy
Scout: whenever possible, "Be Prepared!"
My 2¢ worth. YMMV.
