I also am a "part-time" worship arts director (music, drama, fine arts) - 100% volunteer, absolutely no pay, with a 50-hour per week "real job", a wife, and a older home that seems to always need work.
Neither bragging nor complaining, mind you, just emphasizing that my time is valuable - as I'm sure it is with everyone out there.
We have 2 to 3 services per week, depending on the week, and with services, prep time, meetings, and rehearsals, I invest anywhere from 11 to 25 hours per week in my ministry. Our sunday team usually has a keyboardist, electric guitarist, bassist, drummer, acoustic guitarist (me), and several vocalists. Sometimes we have a flautist or saxaphonist, sometimes not.
Our team rehearses together 2 hours per week (not counting warm-up time on Sunday). The band and vocalists rehearse together. Our rehearsals start with a time of devotion or discussion and prayer, usually about 30 to 45 minutes. We don't set aside specific time for fellowship, but our rehearsals are liberally peppered with fun and fellowship throughout the evening. We've been very blessed with people who love one another, work together well, catch on to new music quickly, and are good musicians.
I've found that 2 hours (one evening) a week of rehearsal is working quite well for us.
