Good point.

We use A B C terminology only for the band and singers, and mostly for
rehearsal. There are some applications in performance as elucidated
below.

Since we've never had office workers helping with anything, it's just
been the band and the projectionist who need to be on the same page.
:-)

So, our charts are labelled with A, B and C, and so on, or else we go
through the song with the band and have them mark the sections. We
have a general roadmap of how the song will go, and depending upon the
song, it may play out in one of several ways:

1) "March through Georgia" - from beginning to end as arranged.
2) "The usual" - Once through all parts then repeat the ones that
stand out to the leader, cued vocally by calling out a few words from
the first line.
3) "There he goes again" - No set order, follow the leader who is
usually alert enough to call out the first few words of each section
so everyone has an idea of where we're going. This may include
spontaneous singing of words not on any chart or slide.

We have found that getting the band in the right place is more
important than getting the words on the screen at the right time, if
one or the other has to be sacrificed.

New songs we generally introduce with a "March through Georgia"
approach so everything is together. As people become more comfortable
with the song, we move to "The usual" or "There he goes again." Some
songs just naturally flow so well in a particular arrangement that we
always "March through Georgia." Others are best with more free-flowing
elements.
