I could see the wisdom in putting the 'boring' (or reserved) service
last if it will continue to be the same and will be in the same time
block - then those folks who think change is evil won't become
discomforted. Far easier to make changes if you don't wake up the
loudmouths. (Tongue partially in cheek)
Secondly - unless your pastor has nail scars in his hands and a hole
in the side of his chest he shouldn't be making those sweeping kinds
of changes without consulting the people who have to make it
work. Sounds like you might have a little bit of input that could be
worthwhile.
It seems that if you are doing two different services, the one that
requires the most prep needs to be first, like choir and orchestra
warm ups - they may have to get there earlier but that is the price
of stardom. The service that requires the least amount of prep goes second
We have 2 services. The worship team practices from 8-8:50. (and on
Wed nights) We usually don't have any music in our first service (9 -
10:30)- we pray for an hour and have a 1/2 of teaching. We don't play
until the 11 service.
As for making the service attractive - don't lock yourself in, it may
take awhile to see 'what works'. Our Prayer and teaching service
doesn't match the 2nd service which is contemporary and high energy,
with lots of music. It or the 2nd service might change as we continue
to be as effective as we can in our sunday morning worship.
Don't be run by the negative. If 175 out of 200 people think an
acoustic service is a bad idea, who cares. Take your core of 25 and
work with them.
